Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in the Middle East of Western Asia with both the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the south, the Caspian Sea in the north, Pakistan in the east, Turkey and Iraq in the west.

When American intelligence traced Dr. Thrax's funding to the Amisbad oil fields in Iran, an American strike team was deployed to destroy the GLA forces there. They established a base of operations at the airport, awaiting new reinforcements to arrive. The GLA had booby-trapped the oil field, but they were safely disarmed by American dozers. The Americans then captured the oil field, securing funds for building up an army, and crushed the GLA's mountain hideout north of the oil field.[1]
