Airfield (Tiberian Dawn)
Talk0this wiki
- For the aircraft producing structures featured in other games see: airfield.
The Airstrip was a Nod structure of the First Tiberium War used to deploy vehicles directly to the battlefield.
While GDI produced vehicles at field bases with the weapons factory, the Brotherhood's field bases imported completed units. The bases covered the cost of flying in goods by collecting tiberium. The airstrip was the receiving area for the vehicles.
The large cargo planes did not land at the field. Instead they slowly flew at extremely low altitude and released the vehicle from the aft cargo hatch as it passed over the gently inclined runway.
The airstrip concept was abandoned after the war. The increasing frequency of ion storms and GDI's orbital weapons and surveillance assets induced Nod to adopt GDI's just-in-time system with war factories in the field.
Game Unit
Edit
It functions just like a War Factory: Vehicles "emerge" from it once the Plane has passed.
It also features in Command & Conquer: Renegade. The cargo plane can kill players and destroys any vehicle in the red circle when they fly in.
