Alexa Kovacs was born in what would later be the Central African Red Zone. She was orphaned at an early age when her parents, who were migratory Nod separatists, were killed by CABAL's Cyborgs during the Firestorm Crisis. Kovacs survived for over a year in the remains of her parents' home, and was discovered mute and starving by Nod scavengers. She joined the scavengers and proved to be extremely intelligent and practical. Kovacs enrolled in the Nod Academy after being noticed for her religious dedication and expertise in AI studies.
After graduating, she soon became a high-ranking officer. Her coldness, reserve, and religious dogmatism got her noticed by many of her comrades, especially Kane. He rose her to the rank of Abbess and she joined the LEGION project.
Her name suggests her Hungarian origin.

It is known that she communicated with an extremely loyal follower of Kane and that she was not at Sarajevo at the time of the Siege of Temple Prime. Alexa Kovacs has been described as the "Angel of Nod" due to her deep faith in Kane. Kovacs, alongside a Nod Commander, was also involved with the destruction of the GDSS Philadelphia and early campaigns during the war. Eventually, she tried to destroy LEGION with a virus, exclaiming that she would not let LEGION be connected to the Tacitus, but was caught in the act by Kane. LEGION was already infected, and when Kane tried to restore LEGION to normal, she pointed a gun at him. She recited the famous Nod mantra "Peace Through Power", before she turned the gun to herself and committed suicide.
She had a fierce, almost paranoid, loyalty to Kane, and as such, mistrusted Kilian Qatar, Nod's highest-ranking general at the start of the Third Tiberium War. Kovacs sent LEGION on a mission to frame Qatar for treason; this summarily led to Qatar's execution.
