Mine deployment (5 carried) |
The Anti-tank minelayer is an Allied support unit in Red Alert.
[edit] Background
With the Soviets aggressively using tanks, the Allies developed mines that could wound even tanks. The mines were deployed by the Anti-tank mine layer. This vehicle could place small mines at positions where Soviets would send vehicles. The Mine Layer itself was armored enough to take a beating, allowing it to escape most encounters with only scratches, owing to its great speed. It could carry five mines at once and could refill at a Service Depot at a fee of 500 credits. Mines were very dangerous and powerful and one would damage badly a Heavy tank, destroy a V2 and do moderate damage to a Mammoth tank. The mines could be destroyed by tanks however.
If a Soviet commander thought the allies had mined a passage, he could order their tanks to shoot at the ground in hoping to find the mines. This however was a pain to do in large passages, so the mines succeeded in damaging the vehicles in most cases. The mines are useless against infantry, however.
