The battleship was a naval artillery platform used by the USA during the GLA War. Its primary weapons were six long range guns in two turrets. They were used to prosecute amphibious landings and escort aircraft carriers. They had very strong firepower and could destroy a Barracks in one hit.
Battleships supported a search and destroy operation against GLA training camps on Kazakhstan's Caspian coastline. Some were caught in the biochemical missile attack on the US naval base in Northern Europe. Most of the fleet survived. Battleships escorted the aircraft carrier USS Daedalus to Somalia to ensure the delivery of food and medical aid to the civilian population.

In most appearances the battleship either is not controllable by the player or acts as scenery. An exception is during the second USA mission in Command & Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour where players may direct battleship fire. It is possible to destroy one in this mission, but it requires a massive amount of battleship fire (it takes six bombardments to even scratch it).
Although these Battleships were seen serving the US Navy as late as 2020, all Battleships were retired by the US Navy as of 2000.
If battleships were to be used, they would be likely Iowa class battleships armed with 3x3 16in guns, not the 2x3 configuration depicted in the game. Therefore, these vessels are actually more akin to "Pocket Battleships" or "coastal defense battleship" with 2 battleship turrets, having similiar roles as cruisers, i.e. offshore support of friendly forces and bombardment of enemy's forces, but cruisers lack the large guns featured in Coast Defense Ships, battlecruisers and battleships. The ship featured in game can be considered a light battleship, but it's straddling the thin line between heavy cruiser/coast defense battleship, and fully fledged battleship.
The Battleship is used in a number of mods for Zero Hour as buildable and controllable units such as, Rise of The Reds, Tidal Wars, Etc.
