The Chrono tank was an experimental development of the Chronosphere project, intended to create a teleporting tank, essentially. The results were two lightly armoured tanks with twin missile launchers and a large chronoshift module. However, they were little match against heavy tanks and had to charge their modules for a considerable amount of time to teleport.
The tanks, still at an experimental stage, were deployed against a Soviet nuclear missile facility to destroy it's radar dome and forward SAM defenses to allow Tanya Adams to be deployed and an MCV flown in to finish the destruction of the facility.
These drawbacks, coupled with the devastating environmental problems caused by the tank led to the project's closure and all knowledge about the technology classified.
