The Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers were medium sized marine vessels of the Allied Forces in the Great World War II and formed the backbone of the Allied navy. They were designed to be durable yet maneuverable and versatile against many kinds of targets.
To this end, the destroyers were outfitted with Stinger multiple rocket launchers on their bows, with heat seeking warheads that were especially effective against aircraft, structures and armor. The second weapon were depth charges, designed to counter enemy submarines. This made the destroyer capable of engaging any type of threat the Soviets threw at them.
They cost twice as much and were slower than the Gunboats of their time, but had longer range and were more versatile, in addition to their significantly improved survivability and stronger depth charges.
