Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) are incredibly intelligent marine mammals. In Great World War III, dolphins had a special role with the Allies. Allied scientists realised that the intelligent dolphins would be useful as a swift underwater scout unit when properly trained. Furthermore, being no larger than any other sea animal (less than 15 feet long and weighing less than 1500 lbs), dolphins are basically invisible to radar and sonar, until they get close enough to an enemy unit for them to discern the idiosyncrasies of the dolphin. Dolphins, have a natural ability for echolocation, the Allies managed to fit the dolphins with equipment that would amplify the sonar pulses enough to damage Soviet craft. It was particularly effective against the Soviet giant squid, because the squid is also biological and therefore became disoriented by the sonic assault. They were first deployed in Cuba when giant squid attacked a cruise ship. They rescued the ship from being torn apart and went on to harass the Soviet fleet.
[edit] Usage

Dolphins were deployed by Allied commanders primarily as scout units, and as counter units for giant squids. When a giant squid latched onto a ship, a dolphin could fire a sonic pulse at the squid, disorienting it and causing it to release its grasp on the ship. Dolphins are also highly effective in groups, as their sonic pulse can damage multiple targets at once. Surrounding a submarine or other naval force with dolphins tends to have a greater than 1:1 damage ratio.
As of World War III, dolphins have been trained to jump out of water for a brief moment, allowing them to dodge torpedoes and other weaponry.
Also unlike before they can't be repaired by Naval Yards. but a engineer using a medical tent can heal them.
[edit] Counters
During GWWIII Giant Squids and Sea Scorpions were effective.
The Allied dolphins are vulnerable to Soviet Stingrays and Imperial Naginata torpedo ships.
Also it will not attack aircraft and as organic creatures Yurikos Special Ability, Desolator weapontry, Natashas rifle, Tanyas pistols will destroy Dolphins in one hit while Shinobis and Terror Drones can kill an unlucky dolphin in one attack.
As Tier 1 units They are ineffective on any land target and in WWIII they do not submerge at all. When leaping out of the water they were vulnerable to AA fire.
[edit] Notes from the field
Battlefield reconnaissance has revealed at least these facts about the Dolphins:
• Sonic disruptors -- Allied dolphins are expert fighters, well-trained with the sonic disruptor weapons custom-fitted around their flippers and dorsal fin. These weapons fire rapidly and are effective against all type of ships, without causing any environmental side-effects.
• The high-flying high jump -- The Allies' specially-trained dolphins have truly mastered the technique of leaping forth from out of the waves. They can jump much higher and farther than their wild brethren, which presents a variety of tactical benefits.
• Superior scan range -- While dolphins are formidable combatants, they are primarily used for reconnaissance. Between their natural speed and their top-of-the-line surveillance equipment, they can locate hostile forces well before they themselves are spotted--then quickly report back to base by back-swimming in a tail-stand.
• Bred for battle -- Because Allied dolphins are born to serve the cause of freedom, and because they have no use for monetary compensation, ultimately the Allies are able to train these creatures for a rather modest sum. Proceeds go to animal rights organizations and aquatic weapons research.
