One of the three top Tiberium scientists in the First Tiberium War, Dr. Elena Petrova worked for GDI together with Dr. Ignatio Mobius and his daughter, Sydney, researching Tiberium and its practical applications. She was captured by the Black Hand in Guatemala along with Mobius and his daughter Sydney Mobius and was forced to work on practical methods of human augmentation with Tiberium.
While it is unknown when she changed her loyalties, she switched sides during her work with the Mobius and defected to Nod, taking the position of main researcher in the genetic enhancement program "Project ReGenesis". Her experience in Tiberium research allowed the Brotherhood to perfect the process and resulted in creation of super soldiers using controlled infusions of Tiberium. Petrova underwent the process herself, resulting in the creation of an entity Nod considered a perfect being, with the ability to jump several meters, become invisible, and withstand great amounts of physical punishment.
She was killed in Cairo by Captain Nick Parker.
