Let's pick up some goods!
- Supply truck, reporting for duty

The supply truck serves as the resource collector for the Chinese army in Generals and Zero Hour.

Background[]

We are pretty busy here.
- Supply truck

While not as advanced as American Chinooks or cheap as the highly budgeted GLA Workers, Supply Trucks formed the backbone of the vast Chinese military. These slow, but tried-and-tested civilian-driven vehicles were both cheap to produce but capable of carrying large sums of resources back to their Supply Centers for processing, and could support the massive demand imposed by the nation's legions of Construction Dozers, Barracks, War Factories.

Game Unit[]

There is much money to be made.
- Supply truck

Much like other supply-collecting units in Generals, a Supply Truck is automatically deployed from completed Supply Centers, and more can be rapidly assembled if the need arises. Compared to their other faction's counterparts, they fall in the middle: with each load they ferry a respectable $300 per run. If conditions are perfect (the Supply Dock is unobstructed and the truck remains still), a single truck will collect an impressive $1800 per minute.

They have decent speed and can survive a degree of small-arms fire. Being a vehicle, they can run down nearly all infantry, giving them a limited ability to deal with antipersonnel infantry. Amusingly, this makes them a decent weapon against Rebel Ambushes that appear within the player's base, though Rebels deployed by General Juhziz were wired with explosives and those who attempted to crush his soldiers often found themselves blown to bits too.

Counters[]

However, being civilian supply-gathering vehicles, their armor was minimal. Most armor-piercing weapons can destroy them fairly quickly. They are also completely unarmed and have to resort to running down soldiers in an emergency, but have no ability to deal with vehicles or aircraft other than fleeing.

Supply Trucks were also unique in their single-purpose usage. This meant that, in the event all supplies on the battlefield were collected, they would no longer have any purpose to serve, except as cannon fodder. Theoretically, they could be driven at an enemy and sacrificed as a diversionary tactic, but their weak armor combined with relatively slow speed made them poorly suited for even that limited purpose. In contrast, American Chinooks could ferry troops across the battlefield and work with Rangers to clear enemy encampments, while GLA Workers doubled as a construction and repair unit.

Trivia[]

  • There was an alternate model for the Chinese supply truck during development of Generals. Instead of being a single truck, the vehicle is an articulated vehicle composed of a cab and trailer. This was used for the old supply collecting logic, but the developers preferred the other truck, so this one went unused. A few player mods have installed a similar vehicle for non-canon generals.
  • Visually, the supply truck carries a large amount of supply crates in one load, while the American Chinook only carries a single crate. However, the Chinook can still carry twice as much supplies as the supply truck in one load.
  • The Toxin transporter truck reuses its in-game name and cameo image from the Chinese supply truck.
    • The Utility truck is also called the supply truck in-game although it is not selectable.
