Slovenia is the first mission of Act III in the Nod campaign of Tiberium Wars, where Nod forces recover the captured components of Kane's device.

Background[]

The destruction of the facility in Casabad made life very difficult for Nod. Parts for the Liquid Tiberium bomb had to be flown in from the backup lab in Brazil, but the transport plane was shot down on its way to Sarajevo. As its cargo was essential to the realization of Kane's plans, the Legendary Insurgent was dispatched to recover it and evacuate it from the area.

New units[]

Events[]

Recovering the Device[]

A commando was inserted east of the crash site. However, she needed to tread carefully as GDI had a substantial presence in the area, including several of GDI patrols covering the area. Ajay advised the Legendary Insurgent to take out the AA batteries to clear the way for Nod reinforcements to arrive by Carryall. The commando used the barrels carelessly placed around the area to her advantage, eliminating large GDI squads and APCs in one explosion, and took advantage of any crates that were laying around. After taking out all the AA batteries and GDI structures, the commando and her reinforcements made their way to the crash site. The strike force moved on to eliminate the GDI excavation team, and the device was recovered.

Holding Out[]

However, Nod was not out of the metaphorical woods - far from it. Ajay detected more GDI units converging on the crash site in addition to three guarded installations blocking the escape route, so he informed the Insurgent of the abandoned Nod base in the area. The base had not gone unnoticed by GDI, who had dispatched several teams of infantry and a Rig to dismantle it, but the strike team was able to eliminate them and retake the base. Once the base was liberated, Nod dug in and prepared to confront the inevitable attacks that GDI would launch.

It was then that an impatient Kane notified the commander of three reinforcement Avatar Warmechs en route to the base, and warned him not to take too long. The Legendary Insurgent dutifully began constructing defenses, most notably at least three Obelisks of Light, to hold out until the reinforcements arrived. The battles were tough, as GDI was desperate to prevent the exporting of the Liquid-T components and threw nearly their entire arsenal, including the tough Zone Troopers and the formidable Mammoth-27s at the base in an attempt to level both it and its charge. Nod's issues were further compounded by the lack of available Tiberium around the recently defunct base, and the commander resorted to using his Shadow Teams as scouts for monetarily valuable assets. Nevertheless, the will of the commander and his troops proved to be enough to resist the onslaught, and his forces lived to see the arrival of the fearsome Avatars.

Blasting Through[]

The Avatars arrived at the scene, as Kane had said, and even crushed an unfortunate Predator tank in their path. With their arrival, the Legendary Insurgent was authorized to construct more of the hulking behemoths, and used them to great effect. Though the path to the main road was held by four Watchtowers and two GDI installations, they all crumbled beneath the laser cannons of the Avatars. GDI attempted to halt their advance by deploying their own walkers, who boasted much greater range, but their legs proved to be their fatal weakness and the Commando brought them crashing to the ground. For good measure, a team of Saboteurs captured and reactivated the husks, and with them to augment the already-powerful Avatar group, GDI resistance dropped to zero and the Liquid-T components were evacuated safely from the area.

The next phase of Kane's plan could begin - or rather, could have, if the assembly site was not currently besieged by GDI forces.

Aftermath[]

With the Liquid-T components secured, the convoy began their journey to Sarajevo, where they would be fully assembled in Temple Prime. Though the convoy would mercifully be left alone during their voyage, they would encounter trouble that would require the Legendary Insurgent's attention at the temple itself...

Walkthrough[]

Initially, the player is given only a Commando, and the mission adopts a sort of "spec ops" playstyle. Use the commando to execute the infantry squads patrolling the area, and destroy the barrels when one or more of the patrolling APCs is near them; the Commando has no feasible way of destroying them otherwise. There is also a few money crates on an "island"; use the Shadow Teams' gliding abilities to collect them. The Commando and the reinforcements received after the destruction of each AA battery should be enough to destroy the more substantial GDI presence in the area. Eliminate the two Engineers studying the truck (they are unarmed, but the truck cannot be controlled otherwise), and the map will expand.

Guide the strike team and the truck to the now-revealed Nod outpost in the area and eliminate the initial GDI attackers. As they are all Rifleman Squads accompanied by an anti-tank support platform, the Commando is capable of destroying them all, but the other troops can provide additional firepower if necessary. After they are all defeated, base command is turned over to the player, and the three bases on the map will begin their assaults. The newly introduced Obelisk of Light is very effective at repelling them, as their reasonable durability and powerful weapon can take apart even Mammoth Tanks if enough are present. Constructing three of them also completes the bonus objective of the mission. However, the Tiberium patch near the base leaves a lot to be desired, so it is best to construct or train only what will really be necessary. There are additional crates on the hills near the base; once again, they can be collected with Shadow Teams.

After the countdown ends, a trio of Avatars will enter the base. Construct more, as their heavy firepower will be useful in punching through the main GDI base's defenses. They can then be ordered to begin the long-awaited counterattack on GDI positions, though make sure to remain careful of Zone Troopers and railgun-equipped Mammoth Tanks, who still possess decent firepower even against the Avatar's impressive health pool. A team of Juggernauts will arrive to stop the player, but the Commando from the beginning of the mission can easily destroy them with her explosive charges. The husks can optionally be captured.

After the truck makes it to the evacuation zone, the mission is won. As there is no real need for it, the truck can be kept safely in the base until all combat has died down, thus reducing the chance of its destruction and a mission failure.

Trivia[]

  • Oddly, the enemy AI does not appear to be enabled until after the truck is escorted to the base, possibly to prevent heavy GDI forces from attacking the small strike team. As a result, the units within their base act under a leash range, and using the above-average range of the given Rocket Squads, can be "cheesed" with minimal damage to the infantrymen.
  • The GDI troops initially in the Nod outpost do not begin firing at the structures until discovered by the player.
    • The Rig will similarly only begin unpacking into a Battle Base upon discovery.
  • GDI will field veteran troops under the Hard difficulty, which is not normally possible.
  • The troops that approach from the south are spawned via scripts instead of being manually built.
  • The cameo for the power plant option in the GDI Construction Yard's menu is oddly absent. This does not affect gameplay.
