General, you are no match for me, I own the skies!
- Granger, the US Air Force General

General Malcolm 'Ace' Granger is a 4-star general in the US Air Force during the GLA Conflict. He was 62 years old by that time.[1]

Background[]

The son of an Iowa crop duster, General Malcolm Granger's flying career began at the age of 12, when he borrowed his father's biplane to go to the state fair in Kansas City. As a lieutenant in the First Iraq War, Granger earned his first notices for knocking out four SAMs in a single afternoon. As he moved up the Air Force ranks, Granger earned a reputation for advancing the role of fighting aircraft in the U.S. military.[2]

Even-tempered yet uncompromising, Granger has developed novel techniques in fuel management and resource deployment during air superiority operations. Those techniques have been used with success in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other theaters. His squadrons are known for precision execution and a strong will to complete the mission.[2]

Stationed at Fort Belmont, Houston, Texas, Granger's Class Number is 08291102-HBGB.[2]

Overview[]

Malcolm Granger boasts a flexible force of fast and agile units, albeit one that comes at the expense of a traditional army that can capture territory. King Raptors easily dominant all other air units, and his early access to the carpet bomb power can fatally inhibit enemy base expansion. By their nature, aircraft are quite good at lightning-fast raids across uncrossable terrain. His Comanches can also be upgraded with stealth, making them excellent at scouting and surprise attacks.

However, his units are rather fragile and expensive. Some degree of micromanagement is necessary to avoid crippling losses, and to last into the late game he must prioritize building a steady independent economy. Of particular concern is his fleet's vulnerability to gunfire and laser-based anti-air weapons; Shin Fai's gunfire-heavy army is a particularly troublesome opponent. These threats can be managed, but require close attention to each sortie; he cannot simply unleash repeated waves of uncoordinated attacks without exhausting his resources. An attack against Gatling-armed Overlord tanks, for example, should be coordinated come from behind if possible, catching the cumbersome vehicle before its AA gun can swing around. Likewise, Combat Chinooks loaded with missile defenders are preferable when facing gunfire-based anti-aircraft vehicles; skirting the edge of a unit's gun range can be quite effective at wearing it down. Against a GLA opponent with stealth technology, Granger will still have to painstakingly clear territory with stealth-detecting countermeasures, lest his expensive aircraft fall victim to concealed Quad Cannons.

Another less obvious weakness is the considerable space requirement of the American airfield, limiting the total number of Raptors, Stealth Fighters and Auroras that he can deploy. On space-restricted maps it is best for him to rely more on helicopters, and superweapons.
