For the Chinese unit of the same name in the Generals universe, see Gatling tank (Generals 1). |
The gattling(sic) tank is a Yuri anti-air/anti-infantry vehicle in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge.
Official description[]
“ | As the Allies have Prism technology and the Soviets use Tesla items, Yuri’s engineers have developed Gattling weapons. The Gattling Tank is equipped with twin 50-caliber machine guns that spin rapidly, spitting out hordes of deadly shells that rip through both infantry and aerial units in just a few moments. A unique feature of these weapons is that the longer they fire, the faster the barrels spin and the more damage the weapons cause. Because of this, Gattling Tanks are most useful in prolonged firefights. - Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge manual(src) |

Background[]
These light vehicles were very effective at mowing down both Soviet and Allied infantry quickly, as well as doubling as an anti-air defensive unit. Although they can deal some damage to lighter vehicles, such as Allied IFVs and some lighter tanks, they were not nearly as effective against heavier tanks, such as Rhino tanks or Apocalypse tanks.
Although similar to the gattling cannon, the smaller gun of the gattling tank offered slightly less firepower than the more expensive 6-barrel alternative, even when garrisoned inside of a tank bunker.
Game unit[]
Gattling tanks are inexpensive, and large numbers of them are available to Yuri's forces for this reason. Large groups of gattling tanks are quite a formidable enemy, as massive volumes of fire negated armour and a large enough group of these vehicles effectively had no weakness, except long-range ships and artillery units and tanks that resist them. However, since they can shoot down the aircraft from aircraft carriers, and the missiles of a dreadnought, Boomer and V3 rocket launcher, even this was not much of a vulnerability.
Gattling tanks can also be placed into a tank bunker for additional protection, extra range, and a significant rate of fire boost. Although it does not consume power, it should be noted that it is less powerful than the standard gattling cannon base defence.
