The Aurora was a small, supersonic attack-bomber utilised by the USA in its war with the GLA. Carrying a single small, but highly dangerous bomb, the Aurora was most commonly used to destroy enemy structures. On its attack run, the Aurora's great speed prevented any enemy anti-aircraft weapons from successfully attacking it; however, on its return it could no longer sustain such a speed, and the thinly-armoured Aurora proved vulnerable.
The Auroras of General Malcolm Granger were equipped with laser defense systems, allowing them to destroy incoming missiles with lasers, vastly improving the ability of the unit to deal with countermeasures, although there was still no defense against anti-aircraft cannons.
General Alexis Alexander, the 'Superweapon General', developed her own, improved version of the Aurora, known as the Aurora Alpha.
[edit] Upgrades
As with all US units, the Aurora could receive Advanced Training. Later in the conflict, all US aircraft were able to be upgraded with Countermeasures that reduced the effectiveness of missile based anti-aircraft attacks.
[edit] Tactics
The primary purpose of the Aurora was demolition. Two Aurora bombs would destroy many buildings. However, the Aurora was extremely vulnerable on its return run and had to be used carefully (as it was also expensive). In addition to buildings, Auroras were effective at destroying slow-moving vehicles, such as artillery and Overlord tanks.
[edit] Counters
Absolutely nothing could attack an Aurora on its bombing run, except EMP missiles or bombs which hit near it, as their area of effect will hit them. They can also be destroyed by carelessly flying them through Particle beams, exploding nuclear missiles and Scud storms. However, any anti-aircraft weapon or fighter jet was effective once the Aurora was forced to slow down as they had extremely thin skin.
