The Combat Chinook was a variant on the regular US Chinook developed by General Malcolm Granger. As well as being able to do all the things that a regular Chinook could - collect supplies, transport units, and perform combat drops - the Combat Chinook also had gunports (like the Humvee) that allowed infantrymen being transported inside to fire at enemies within range.
Construction of the Combat Chinook required a War Factory to be present on the battlefield.

[edit] Tactics/Counters
Fast, agile and equipped with a point-defence laser, a Combat Chinook loaded with Missile Defenders and Path Finders was a serious threat to almost every type of unit. It was vulnerable to anti-aircraft units (those that didn't rely on missiles), but concentrated firepower was needed to take it down. Particularly effective were the GLA Quad Cannons and Chinese Gattling Tanks in large numbers, and EMP weapons were a serious threat because a single nearby detonation was enough to take the Chinook down.
