The Hand of Nod is the structure that trains and provides housing for Nod's infantry corps. It is perhaps one of Nod's most recognizable and distinct buildings, integrating the shape of a human hand into the architecture. This reflects the Brotherhood's use of symbolism. In this case, the infantry trained are the "hands" of Nod, changing the world according to Kane's will.
[edit] First Tiberium War
The structure's facilities during the First Tiberium War were mostly located underground, with only two levels located above ground. The highest part of the Hand contained an emergency medical lab, allowing first aid to injured Nod brethren requiring assistance. It was directly connected to a helicopter landing pad just behind the arm protruding from the structure.
The ground level was accessible through a large ramp in front of the building. The ramp led to a lobby with two elevators (one leading deeper underground and the second to the emergency medical facility) and a corridor leading into the command center data processing room. The corridor also had a memorial shrine dedicated to those who were "lost, but not forgotten" placed in between the two sliding doors leading into the command center. The rear part of the command center served as data storage, while the center itself, accessible through a corridor directly below the entry walkway, housed command consoles and status screens as well as the primary data processing cores, flanking the structure's Master Control Terminal.
The underground levels, accessible through two elevators - one from the main lobby and the second from the rear, housed a majority of the bases' facilities.
Sublevel one served as living quarters, with a large sleeping area with over one hundred bunks connected to two fully furnished bathrooms and a lift going straight to the surface, allowing for quick mobilisation and deployment of troops in case of an emergency. Additionally, it housed a large meal hall and a kitchen, to keep the troops well nourished. Sublevel two was basically a training level doubling as an armory with a close-quarters-combat training mat, a fully equipped gym, weapons' locker and, what was most impressive, an indoor exercise arena for Nod troopers, with an artificial lake. The deepest level was home to the faith restructuring facilities, interrogation cells, morgue and torture center. The access was strictly limited only to the highest ranking memebers of the Brotherhood.
[edit] Second Tiberium War
During the Second Tiberium War, the Hand of Nod was a much more flat structure, and almost all of it's internal facilities have been located underground. Also, the structure had a much lower profile, with it's whole outer frame being the Hand.
[edit] Third Tiberium War
The design of the structure was overhauled following the Second Tiberium War, as the underground facilities of the earlier design proved to be effective, but also extremely dangerous should GDI manage to destroy the outer frame of the structure, as members of the Brotherhood would become trapped in the now isolated catacombs. The new building has a much smoother frame, with the hand again extending into the air grasping a globe. It's role continued to be an infantry training center.
The new structure also doubled as a place of learning for aspiring Nod members, a sanctuary for fanatics and their departure rituals and a Confessor interrogation center.
