Helicopters
From Command and Conquer Wiki
Helicopters are rotor-driven aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically. Their rotor system provides large amounts of lift, allowing helicopters to boast stronger armor and more ammunition capacity than typical fixed-wing. However, Helicopters are almost always slower than jets.

[edit] History
[edit] Great World War II
The Soviet Union, already boasting a powerful air force, utilized Mi-24 Hind gunships to be used against light infantry. They were armed with chainguns capable of shredding infantry, but which failed to significantly damage armor. They were more durable than Soviet Yak-9s or MiG-29 Fulcrums. The Allied Helicopter of choice was the AH-64 Apache. Though this was virtually the only combat aircraft that the Allies had, it was powerful, and it's hellfire missiles made it deadly against tanks. Both the Allies and Soviets used CH-47 Chinook transport helicopters to quickly insert and evacuate important personell.
[edit] First Tiberium War
During the First Tiberium War Nod used the older Apache helicopters, retrofitted with chainguns in the place of the hellfires. CH-47 Chinooks and CH-46 Sea Knights helicopters were used by both teams in a transport role. UH-60 Blackhawks were used rarely in the war. A customized RAH-66 Comanche was the personal aircraft of Sakura Obata.
[edit] Second Tiberium War
Nod used the Harpy, a signficantly lighter scouting helicopter, during the Second War. These were cheap, but not nearly as durable against period weapons as preceding helicopters. The Harpy was equipped with a chaingun, effective against infantry, but generally weak against vehicles.
[edit] Third Tiberium War
Though VTOL technology had rendered Helicopters largely obselete by the third war, GDI developed the Hammerhead, with a unique twin rotor design. The Hammerhead utilized powerful machine guns to defeat infantry, and could carry a squad of soldiers, who would fire out of the helicopter.
