Ion cannon beacon

A GS-2 "Godsend" Ion Cannon Beacon is a point to point communications device powered by a high powered battery that is specifically designed to help target the Ion Cannon locally. The beacon is an alternative to using GPS to locate the target

The beacon transmitted an encrypted ultra high frequency signal to the local GDI communications relay, which in turn transmitted it directly to the Ion Cannon. The signal was impossible to jam, as it was a burst transmission, and allowed for very precise fire control. The beacon targetting had a priority over all other requests for the Ion Cannon strike.

One of the major flaws of the system was that the Commando had to place this kind of beacon personally. While it wouldn't be impossible for Nod Black Hand Chameleons , it was a feat for GDI Commandos. Additionally, the beacon could've been easily disarmed by an experienced engineer.
