The Ironside was a large experimental aircraft created by GDI. Intended to be a troop transport, it was essentially a flying wing, much like 20th century American B-2 Spirit bombers. A prototype was being field tested in Blue Zone 8 (Chile), in the same sector as Dr. Alphonse Giraud was located.
The Ironside was destroyed by a Nod Black Hand strike force sent to capture Giraud, thus abruptly and prematurely terminating the project.
[edit] Trivia
The aircraft is clearly named for actor Michael Ironside, who played the role of General Jack Granger in Tiberium Wars.
The Aircraft also shares similarities with the Transport craft shown in the cancelled Tiberium Game for carrying Light tanks and Infantry
