The Orca Command vessel 3A, named the "Kodiak", was the command center of field commander Michael McNeil during the Second Tiberium War. The Kodiak had two rocket engines on the sides of its tail which could move around their axis and a set of exhausts on the sides of the craft to allow it to hover and lift-off as well as enter the Earth orbit.
The craft's cockpit located in the superstructure was housing an EVA unit, a high power communications uplink allowing it to remain in contact with ground forces and the GDSS Philadelphia. Additionally, the Kodiak had an emergency medical lab (used to treat Tratos and later administer the antidote to Umagon), an armory stocked with M16 Mk. II pulse rifles and GDI combat suits and a large cargo bay for vehicles, sensitive cargo (such as the Tacitus) and infantry in the aft section.
Aside from having no defensive systems, the Kodiak was just as vulnerable to ion storms as any other GDI airborne technology. Active ion storms could shut the Kodiak's engines and sensors down, resulting in it being grounded for the duration of the storm (a fact Nod used to it's advantage once). While after the Second Tiberium War the Kodiak was equipped with EMP shielding, allowing it to fly during an ion storm, the shielding did not protect it from lightning strikes. One destroyed its engine and caused it to crash into a mountain. Among the victims were pilot Brink and lieutenant commander Chandra.
