The man portable Obelisk of Light module, codenamed Firefly, was one of the many technological marvels Nod R&D corps have created in the heat of the First Tiberium War. Designed primarily for Black Hand operatives, it featured a bullpup design in a resistant, reliable package. However the weapon lacks advanced optics, forcing the user to rely on iron sights entirely.

A Firefly was charged with special batteries and was capable of converting energy into light, which was then amplified and projected forward through red focusing crystals located underneath the muzzle of the weapon. Each battery was charged for a hundred shots and could be quickly reloaded. The laser beam was capable of piercing all but the thickest body, even penetrating vehicle armored plating. The shot would continue to burn for several seconds, thus allowing Canny nod troopers to conserve ammo by letting the resulting flames finish off the enemy.

The weapon was semiautomatic, to improve cooling and prevent overheating. A development of the weapon was the Tarantula laser chaingun. Due to cost and complex construction, it has never been issued to regular Nod troops. It retired due to cost.
