M16 Mk. II Pulse Rifle
From Command and Conquer Wiki
Following the First Tiberium War, with the older assault rifle losing their power, it was decided to deliver an order for a next generation assault rifle to replace the aging GAU-3 Eliminator and M16s. Eventually, the M16 Mk. II Pulse Rifle was developed.
In .22 caliber, these rifles were faster firing, more durable, and added an integral multi-function projectile launcher. The rifles were manufactured by each side separately, and greatly varied in outer design, whilst retaining their internal parameters. The new weapons also featured a pulse action mechanism firing the rounds, complimenting their rugged and reliable design, as well as full modification capability. Soon, it became the mainstay weapon of the light infantry squads of both GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod, the latter using a frame derived from the M16. This makes also clear that the M16 Mk. II was the second generation M16.
The new rifle was produced in a number of variants with internal mechanisms and elements interchangeable between all types. The weapon was also designed to interface with HUDs of modern armour and relay essential targeting data to the weapon user. For versatility, the weapon also came with a grenade launcher beneath the barrel. It was succeeded by the more advanced GD-2 assault rifle.
