The Obelisk of Light is a shining example of military applications of LASER technology by the Brotherhood.

Background
- Main article: Obelisk of Light
Born out of the need for a powerful defensive mechanism for Brotherhood military bases, the Obelisk is quite possibly the most powerful laser weapon in recorded history, result of Project Obelisk WDTA2411 5[1]. It's mode of operation remained basically the same throughout the wars - massive capacitors underneath the structure amass power, which is then used to create a powerful laser beam, directed against enemies via a system of advanced optical and focusing systems. Obviously, it requires massive amounts of power to function. The Isis model deployed in the Third Tiberium War is the most advanced and most powerful Obelisk incarnation ever since its first introduction during the first war.
Game building
The Obelisk, although taking much longer to charge, is much more powerful than before. When facing infantry or light vehicles, uses sweeping low power laser beams to vaporize them; beam cannons can charge up an Obelisk so that its range and attack power increases, when fully charged, it becomes possibly the most powerful and longest ranged ground defense of all Tier 3 defenses. However the Obelisk still requires a tremendous amount of power, and the destruction of power plants will render it as well as most of the base useless. The structure itself is also quite delicate, and requires upwards of four beam cannons to gain full power, resulting in a very costly but powerful defense. Most commanders often have an Obelisk further back from the tier 1-2 base defenses when planning on using beam cannons to increase power. This forces most combat units to deal with the weaker, but more numerous base defenses while the Obelisk will "snipe" any ground unit that gets too close.
Role in Campaign
The Obelisk of Light is first made available in the Slovenia mission of the Nod Campaign. The EVA briefs the Commander about an optional objective; deploying three Obelisks of Light around the base. Since GDI relentlessly assaults the base from three sides, it is imperative that the Commander deploys these Obelisks to defend the base until the Avatar Warmech reinforcements arrive.
