The Orca fighter was the successor to GDI's ORCA Assault Craft fielded during the First Tiberium War. The acronym was officially adopted as a codename for the family of aircraft developed on the base of the assault craft, while the original concept was overhauled and redesigned, resulting in the creation of the Orca Fighter, which replaced most of GDI fighter jets.
The Fighter itself remained a VTOL based aerial assault vehicle, but the engines were revamped and miniaturized, while the armor was upgraded and Dragon TOWs replaced with Hellfire missiles. The chin mounted minigun was deemed redundant and removed from the designs, as the fighter's main role was engaging armor with guided missiles, and the chaingun proved to be uneffective at killing infantry and unwieldy when used. Additional role for the fighter was providing cover for slower, more vulnerable Orca Bombers and harassing the anti-aircraft defenses until the bombers could reach their destination and accomplish their respective tasks.
The Orca Fighter was superceded in the role fire support by the Orca Gunship, becoming a lightning fast tactical strike fighter. The new fighter has oversized supercharged engines on articulated mounts and a modified pilot cockpit. They cannot be constructed on the battlefield directly and are called in to perform a tactical strike. The Orca (as do all aircraft) has light armour (slightly higher than the Orca Gunship), but is very fast. It has 2 rocket pods mounted on the sides just under the cockpit which do moderate damage against buildings and light damage against vehicles. It will also kill infantry with 1 hit. An Orca Fighter was seen along with a group of Orca Gunships defending the the outskirts of Sydney during the initial Scrin invasion and there are some reports that it can now attack enemy aircraft.
Also when ZOCOM call in airstrikes from Orcas they uses sonic grenades instead of rockets,
