Personal ion cannon

The Merlin personal Ion Cannon was a shoulder-mounted, stout-barrel weapon that was capable of firing Ion beams. It was basically an Ion Cannon shrunk down into a relatively compact, though still cumbersome, weapon. The destructive power of the Merlin was so great, it could destroy a vehicle with one hit. It was developed, after much experimentation, and used during the later stages of the First Tiberium War.
Before firing, the Merlin gathers ion particles from the air through a cylindrical top-mount. After collecting the particles, the Merlin rapidly heats the ions up to 6000 degrees Fahrenheit \ 5075 degrees Celcius. Soon afterwards, the ions are magnetically accelerated, firing the ionized beam.
The device was used only by GDI special operation Commandos during First Tiberium War, and was never produced for regular use. However, research into the technology contiuned. 11 years after the third Tiberium War, the GD-10 has an integrated miniture Ion Cannon.
