The Photon Cannon is a heavy anti-tank defence that only is good against vehicles. They rival the Guardian cannons and Laser turrets. Despite their name, they appear to use plasma discs as a main weapon. They can be upgraded with Tiberium shard launchers, increasing their damage per second output by nearly 140%. Mammoth Tanks and infantry such as Zone Troopers can be a danger to it. They cannot target aircraft, relying on Plasma Missile Batteries for that purpose. They are often paired with Buzzer Hives as well, to cover their weakness to infantry.

This base defense shares its name with a defense used by the Protoss race in the Starcraft series, though it has the ability to fire at air units.
