Priests were cultists in the Tiberium-worshipping cult led by Mortimer who oversaw cult worship of Tiberian wildlife. They had automatic rifles for protection against threats to the cult. Furthermore, they had very effective armor, capable of withstanding blasts from Ghostalker's railgun. Their weapons were ineffective against Ghostalker when he came helping GDI get the Tacitus from the Temple of the Tacitus, which was held by the cult, most of the priests were killed.
