The Chronosphere was a mass teleportation device developed by the Allies during the Second World War. An improved version was used to decisively end the Third World War. Albert Einstein was a notable contributor to the Chronosphere's design.

[edit] History
[edit] Second World War
The Philadelphia Experiment was an early Chronosphere experiment. The results indicated a lack of control over the process. Solving the control problem became the main preoccupation of Albert Einstein and other personnel working on the project.
The Chronosphere was being tested at a facility near Lich, Germany. Advancing Soviet forces discovered the facility and threatened to overrun it. The base was preparing for a critical test and evacuation would mean the loss of months of preparations. Field Commander A9 was sent to hold the facility and despite enemy action the test proceeded on schedule.
The Chronosphere continued to exhibit operational idiosyncrasies despite continued refinement. Personnel were still liable to disappear during teleportations and nuclear warheads could explode if a teleport was attempted. The appearance of the chrono vortex during use also highlighted the device's imperfection.
The Chronosphere was officially released for battlefield use for the Battle of Moscow at the end of the war.

That is all...
The following is based on the Soviet campaign for Red Alert and might contradict canonical campaigns, though non-contradictory elements may be useful as "flavor" material or semi-canon.

The Soviets first became aware of the Chronosphere when Soviet agents observed it in operation on Elba Island. Stalin became obsessed with acquiring it, even more so as Allied forces began using it tactically.
The Soviets tracked the Chronosphere to Northern Switzerland. An attack captured Albert Einstein but not the device. The Soviets placed a tracking device placed in Einstein's watch and allowed the Allies to rescue the scientist using the Chronosphere. The tracking device then led the Soviets to the Chronosphere's new location on the Iberian Peninsula.
The Allies set their radar stations to automatically send a destruct message to the Chronosphere if Soviet forces approached. Another Soviet attack failed to disable all of the radar stations and the Chronosphere was destroyed. General Georgi Kukov failed to inform the field commander of the last radar site and for this oversight Stalin personally executed Kukov.
[edit] Third World War
The Chronosphere continued to be improved by Albert Einstein at his Black Forest laboratory. The device could move much more mass spread over a wider area. In addition the chrono vortex and personnel teleportation problems were eliminated. However it still could not directly teleport infantry.
Einstein calculated the optimal placement to be in the Florida Keys and an Allied operation was carried out to secure the location from Soviet Cuba. Once in place it was used to move an Allied army to Moscow and, in so doing, win the war.
A spin-off technology manifested in the Chrono Legionnaire and the Chrono miner.

Even though Einstein was removed from time by the Soviets, the Chronosphere somehow remained in the Allied arsenal of World War III (together with the Mirage tank). It was developed by Futuretech instead of Albert Einstein. It is expected to work similarly to the Chronosphere of the 'fake' Great World War III, while its outer design seems to be a complete make-over.
Tanya's mysterious Time Belt was rumored to be reverse-engineered from and the portable version of Chronosphere technology.
There is the harmless and non lethal Chrono Swap which can swap the Two units in places and the Chrono Rift that protect the units and structures from Superweapon attacks but the units cannot act when protected. The Chrono Rift can also be used in a manner similar to allied Cryo Choppers to stop escaping or attacking enemy units, and can be used to buy time from a superweapon strike, as a timer will stop functioning as long as the effect lasts.
To gain access to this device the Allied Commander must have both an Allied Airbase and a Conyard Deployed.
[edit] Usage

In GWWII the prototype had to be protected from Stalins Attacks.
The USSR did capture one of these things several times in the Aftermath Missions and Soviet Campaigns.
In GWWIII it was needed several times to deal with Nuclear Missiles in Cuba.
In WWIII the Allies used this thing for teleporting enemy and friendly units.
In the Imperial Campaign the Allies attempt to attack Yokohoma Harbor while working with Krukov but failed.
Also in the Imperial Campaign for some reason the Chronosphere is made in a Futuretech lab and when Gregor came by to help the allies he use the Chronosphere to warp in his Soviet structures and units.
Gregor said something about a Chronosphere weapon and unleashing it.
In the soviet Campaign it was a bothersome problem to the USSR and Moskvin had to help out the Commander. Ackerman used it to protect the Statue of Liberty but failed.
The Most famous use is when in the Allied Campaign it was needed after the Psionic Decimator attacked and destroyed both the Allied Commanders and Lissettes bases. At Tokyo harbor the device was useful on transporting an MCV across the harbor and that is how the Allies does not need the USSR to help them at all.
It was once again was a real help to the Allies on the Assault on Leningrad because after shrinking down two MCVs 10 Mirage Tanks appeared.
[edit] Game Unit
[edit] Red Alert 1
The Chronosphere may only move one unit at a time. The Chronosphere may not be used on enemy units. A teleported unit will return automatically to its pre-teleportation location after a period of time.
The Chronosphere cannot transport infantry, either inside or outside a personnel carrier. Attempting to do so results in the infantry disappearing. A Demolition Truck will explode immediately without being moved if a teleport is attempted. Each use of the Chronosphere has a small probability of generating a chrono vortex.
Teleporting a sea unit onto land, or vice versa, destroys the unit at the destination.
[edit] Red Alert 2
The Chronosphere may move any ground and sea units in a three by three square area. Teleporting a sea unit onto land, or vice versa, destroys the unit at the destination unless the unit is amphibious. Units may not be teleported onto impassable terrain like cliffs.
[edit] Red Alert 3
The Chronosphere catchment area is reduced from Red Alert 2 so it may move fewer units at once. Teleporting a sea unit onto land, or vice versa, destroys the unit at the destination unless the unit is amphibious.
