During GWWII, Stalin's Soviet tank columns mercilessly rolled through Germany. Because of the lack of anti-tank firepower in the Allied arsenal, the attack was difficult to stop. At the end of the war, German leaders decided that they needed to design their own anti-tank vehicle, so that in the future, any tank assault on Germany would be destroyed without a great amount of effort. To this end, the German Tank Destroyer was developed.
The tank destroyer is a large anti-tank cannon mounted on a flexible, tracked platform. It is capable of easily destroying enemy tanks, even punching through the plating of the Apocalypse tanks. However, the tank destroyer was strictly capable of anti-armor support only. The shaped charge it used was easily capable of compromising any tank, but it was nearly useless against infantry or structures. It was also relatively lightly armoured.
However, as the Soviet Army typically was confident in the power of it's armoured divisions, the Tank Destroyers overspecialization meant it filled a vital niche in the German forces.
