Radar

From Command and Conquer Wiki

RADAR (RAdio Detection And Rangefinding) is a system that uses electromagnetic waves to identify the range, altitude, direction, or speed of both moving and fixed objects such as aircraft, ships, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. A transmitter emits radio waves, which are reflected by the target and detected by a receiver, typically in the same location as the transmitter. Although the radio signal returned is usually very weak, radio signals can easily be amplified. This enables a radar to detect objects at ranges where other emissions, such as sound or visible light, would be too weak to detect. Radar is used in many contexts, including meteorological detection of precipitation, air traffic control, police detection of speeding traffic, and by the military. The technology is widespread and used to relate data to EVA console displays.

[edit] Great World War II

Radar was first widely used during this way, by both sides, provided by a Radar dome. The Allies also invented GPS, which allowed for total radar coverage over an entire battlefield. In addition, the Allies used the Radar jammer, which sent out their own radio waves to interfere with enemy radar. The Soviet Tesla tank was based on a captured radar jammer chassis, and could jam nearby enemy radar.

[edit] First Tiberium War

In the First Tiberium War, the role of radar facility was taken over by the Communications center and, for GDI, Advanced communications center.

[edit] Second Tiberium War

In the Second Tiberium War, Radar stations took over the role of scanning. Mobile Sensor Arrays used powerful radar, in addition to other scanning technologies, to identify and track nearby stealthed or underground units.

[edit] Third Tiberium War

As it was deemed crucial to success, GDI and Nod both made radar far more accessible than before, integrating it with their Construction yards. In addition, GDI and Nod both sought new ways to utilize radar. With the construction of a command post, GDI was able to use a radar scan to reveal localized concentrations of units anywhere on a map. Meanwhile, Nod developed the radar jamming missile, a small ballistic missile capable of disrupting enemy radar, and signature generators, devices mounted on Venom patrol craft which would trigger false positives on enemy radar; making a small force of venoms seem overwhelming.

The Scrin also utilize a form of Radar in their forces. They get their Radar coverage from the Drone Platform.
