The Radar station was a structure used by GDI, Nod and CABAL during the Second Tiberium War and the Firestorm Crisis as a communications platform, replacing the obsolete Communications center.

Background

The radar station's primary feature is an enormous satellite dish for connecting to the network of satellites orbiting the Earth. It is also useful for better coordination between unit, provide guidance for aircraft, and grants secure access to classified information (namely, access to advanced units and structures).

Some radar stations act as early warning systems, like the Nod radar array complex, which calls in additional Nod forces when Tratos' rescue mission was underway should it be left intact. GDI stations are also notable for having its own copy of EVA for better decentralization of command.

CNCTW Nod Emblem The following is based on the Nod campaign for Tiberian Sun and some details might contradict canon.

GDI set up a radar array of its own, which prevented Nod forces from reaching the old Sarajevo temple from the south rather than across the Miljacka river.

Firestorm Crisis

Operation: The Needs of the Many required a weakened, but battle-hardened Nod force to capture a GDI radar tower that contained an EVA unit to replace the rogue CABAL.

Legacy

After the Second Tiberium War, satellite uplinks were miniaturized and installed directly into Construction yards.

Trivia

The GDI Radar was originally supposed to have two upgrade slots and the name Communications tower. However, the idea was forwarded to the independent Upgrade center, but the residual SHP sprite still exists in Tiberian Sun and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 files.
