Project ReGenesis

From Command and Conquer Wiki

(Redirected from ReGenesis)

Kane recognized Tiberium as the way of the future; Whomever controls Tiberium controls the future, and who can harness will posess nearly limitless power. Project ReGenesis was the first major research initative initiated by Kane whose objective was creating the next generation of humans, Homo Sapiens Tiberius. Overseen by General Raveshaw, the Project was given the best scientists Nod had and to further augment it's capabilites, additional staff was coerced to participate.

They were GDI's finest minds: Dr. Ignatio Mobius, Dr. Sydney Mobius and Dr. Elena Petrova. They were kidnapped from a GDI research facility in Guatemala and transported to secret Nod research centers. Their expertise, bolstered by Nod's own vast knowledge of Tiberium provided Nod with the first, crude but effective, methods of human augmentation.

However, Dr. Petrova was actually a member of the Brotherhood herself and was the real head of the Project, eventually undergoing the treatment herself.

The project yielded several results and was an important step in creating an easy method of Tiberium augmentation. Three types of augmented humans (Homo Tiberius) were commonly encountered during the closing stages of the First Tiberium War:

  • Initiates: The first successful result of the ReGenesis Project, the Initiates are an unstable creation, much less advanced than their brethren in terms of processing power. However, the Tiberium mutations grant them excellent speed and power making them excellent and dangerous hand-to-hand fighters.
  • Acolytes: The second stage produced "stable" mutations. These new variants are capable of command processing and using advanced weaponry. Most (if not all) Acolytes were augmented with cybernetic limbs, as it appears they may have been constructed from failed Initiates (i.e.; failed mutations). They resemble Initiates but with many features deformed (i.e.; only one eye, arm, skin-covered jaw bones and, in extreme cases, exposed brains).
  • Templars: The final stage of Project ReGenesis. Genetically and bio-chemically engineered to be the perfect soldiers, possessing dense musculature, a phenomenal resistance to injury and superhuman data processing skills and tactical acumen. Templars are created loyal to the Brotherhood and follow orders unquestioningly. As befitting their status, Templars bear the best body armour and weaponry that Nod can offer. Except for a breathing apparatus, they lack any other visible cybernetic augmentation.

The project has also yielded two unique results:

  • General Raveshaw underwent the treatment, convinced by Dr. Petrova and was greatly changed. He roughly doubled in height, and gained extreme strength, but there were drawbacks. He appeared to be incapable of speech, and only nodded when given an order. However, as far as can be determined, he was perfectly loyal to Dr. Petrova. His strength was such that he could hurtle a large man across a room with great force.
  • Dr. Petrova finally performed the experimental augmentation of herself. She was, it is known, the ultimate success of the project. Not only was her strength and resilience increased, but her mind power was not decreased, as it was in previous iterations of the project. She was still able to continue her Tiberium research while in the "Divine" form.

[edit] Destruction of the Project

Sources within GDI reveal that captain Nick Parker Has substantially contributed to destroying the Project. He came into play after Nod forces captured three top scientists of GDI. His primary task was finding and bringing them back alive. Havoc was first sent to rescue the scientists from a Nod prison complex that included a hydroelectric dam, a power plant, and even an Obelisk, but Nod spirited them away on board a plane before Havoc could reach them. He briefly fought Carlos Mendoza, a thug, hired by Raveshaw.

Attempting to follow the plane, he was shot down by Sakura Obata. Surviving the crash, he found out information about the scientists by infiltrating a Nod communications center. Although he succeeded in recovering the data, he was accosted by Sakura Obata, a mercenary hired by Nod forces. When he destroyed the helicopter, he inadvertantly triggered a dormant volcano that destroyed both the Nod facility and the island - Havoc escaped on board of a Nod submarine. Information recovered from the communications center revealed that they might be held near a Nod-controlled castle. The captain had to first rescue his teammates, who made an emergency landing in the nearby village. This accomplished, Havoc managed to infiltrate the Chateau, and rescue Sydney Mobeius, although he was unable to rescue Petrova or Dr. Moebius. Upon their return to the village, a tactical nuclear strike was ordered on their location.

Being at loss, GDI allowed Sydney Moebius to aid Havoc in locating her father. Unfortunately, they were both caught by Black Hand stealth soldiers. Havoc was later freed by Sakura, who also helped him infiltrate the nearby research base and allowed him to save Dr. Ignatio Moebius. Sydney Moebius was, at the time, already en route to the Cairo Temple of Nod and Dr. Elena Petrova revealed herself to be willingly working with Nod.

General Locke quickly responded to this situation and ordered captain Parker to immediately deploy in Cairo and attempt to infiltrate the Temple. The Commando succeeded in it, infiltrating a crashed (possibly) Scrin saucer on the way. Inside, he managed to reach the Temple core and save Dr. Moebius after killing the transformed Elena Petrova. After aiding Dr. Moebius in rewiring the nuclear missile housed within to detonate prior to launch, they both evacuated, ending the Project ReGenesis prematurely. The ReGenesis project pioneered the cyborg projects of the Second Tiberium War.

[edit] Legacy

With the destruction of the Cairo Temple, and several major Black Hand facilities during the war, Project ReGenesis was essentially halted, and much of the Black Hand's equipment, such as the Chameleon stealth suit, was destroyed. However, the technology did not disappear and was preserved in secure Nod databanks.

The destruction of the ReGenesis project was not the end of Nod's efforts to create the Homo Tiberius. Their continued research would later pave way for the development of Divination. That research lead to development of cyborgs, the Cyborg Commando and advanced methods of accelerating human evolution with Tiberium. Its latest offshoot is the Tiberium Infusion, introduced in Yellow Zones by Nod after the Firestorm Crisis.

As for the supplementary technology developed during the closing stages of the war, of the laser rifle, Volt auto rifle, laser chaingun, and personal ion cannon, others were incorporated into other projects or further developed, such as Nod's lasers of the Second Tiberium War and later developments.

The Nod Awakened and Enlightened may also be a further development of this project.
