Gen1 Rocket Buggy Icons

The Rocket Buggy is the basic GLA long-range attack vehicle. It is the fastest but the least powerful of all long-range units.

Roads? How boring.
- Rocket Buggy

Unlike other long-range units, the Rocket Buggy is fast and agile; however, it has the weakest armor of all siege/support vehicles. Rocket Buggies are armed with pods of small missiles, which are weaker than the RPG Trooper's rockets individually. The Buggies compensate their relative lack of power by firing a swarm of projectiles in rapid succession, especially when upgraded with extra ammo.

We have more Buggy Ammo now!

All of these upgrades could be purchased at a Black Market.

Gen1 AP Rockets Icons Armour-Piercing Rockets Improved the damage dealt by each rocket by 25%. Purchasable from any Black Market for a cost of $2000.
Gen1 Rocket Buggy Ammo Icons Buggy Ammo Doubled the capacity of the launchers on all Rocket Buggies, allowing them to fire more rockets in a single attack. Purchasable from any Black Market for a cost of $2000.
Gen1 Junk Repair Icons Junk Repair Allowed all Rocket Buggies to slowly auto-repair to full health while in the field. Purchasable from any Black Market for a cost of $500.

They will be humiliated!
- Rocket Buggy

The Rocket Buggy optimizes the GLA's hit-and-run tactics. Fast, agile, and next to useless at close range against other units (without superior numbers), Rocket Buggies are required to get in, make the attack, and get out again. In squads, it can destroy almost any armored ground unit in matter of seconds. As well as being useful for taking out enemy defensive structures from a distance, Buggies can bring up the rear of armored assaults, acting as support. Of particular note was the ability of a small number of Buggies, working together, to easily destroy China's oft-feared Overlord Tanks, thanks to their superior speed and long-range attack.

Coupled with elite (fully upgraded) Technicals and Quad Cannons, such groups can make for the fastest, most effective hit-and-run squads in the game, covering all spectrums from anti-infantry, anti-air, anti-tank and siege warfare.

The Rocket Buggy is vulnerable to almost any other unit that could get in range of it, especially during its long reload delay, due to its lack of armor. The rockets can be shot down by units with PDLs, especially Avengers, Paladins and King Raptors, but it would require several of them to completely neutralize the full attack of one buggy. Proper application of hit-and-run tactics or Quad Cannon support greatly enhances their survivability.

Unlike other artillery, they have to get their targets in their line of sight, so any base defense built some distance back from the top any type of slope or around a bend forced Rocket Buggies to get on even ground to be able to fire, which if the defenses are built in a proper position, forced them to get within firing range of the defenses and other units. They are also ineffective in an urban setting, where the many buildings made them prime targets for other artillery, enemies within buildings out of their sight, and especially aircraft. It was also incredibly easy to track where the rockets where coming from, as instead of an instant burst like most artillery, it took rocket buggies a few seconds to discharge all their rockets, making it very easy to pinpoint where they are coming from.

  • Very fast
  • Excellent for long-range harassment
  • As cheap as Inferno Cannon
  • Buggy Ammo upgrade doubles the number of rockets
  • Effective when massed
  • Effective against buildings (including base defenses) and vehicles
  • Capable to squish infantry

  • Poor armor
  • Low maneuverability
  • Very long reload time
  • Rockets can be intercepted by point defense lasers and jammed by ECM tanks
  • Ineffective against infantry
  • Vulnerable to aircraft

There is a special Toxin Shells upgrade for the Rocket Buggy, as the missile has some code that makes it leave behind toxin residue after the upgrade has been purchased. The upgrade also exists in the code but it has no button to purchase it.
