United Nations Security Council

The United Nations Security Council was the most powerful organ of the United Nations. Formed to maintian secuirty and peace among the governments of the world, the Council has the power to create resolutions in which member nations must carry out under the UN Charter. This was unlike many of the other UN organs, like the General Assembly, which could only make suggestions and not force governments to obey them.

The Council used to consist of 15 nations, five of which were permanet memebers, with the other ten seats selected by the General Assembly for two-year terms. Each seat has a veto power over resolutions. Permanent seats, such as the United States of America, United Kingdom, China, and France, consisted of the victors of the Great World War II, 5-th permanent seat went to Russia

The Security Council's power was also enhanced with Operations Group Echo: Black Ops 9 (OGE:BO 9), created after the Second World War. OGE:BO 9, an covert special operations group, allowed the Security Council to enforce it's resolutions. However, OGE:BO 9 was revealed during the Persian Gulf War. To save face, and the increasing power of the Brotherhood of Nod and Tiberium, the Council worked with the G8 nations to create the United Nations Global Defense Act, forming the Global Defense Initiative. GDI remained under the review of the Security Council.

With the failing power of the United Nations, the Security Council's power also wained. It was eventually succeed by GDI's Council of Directors.
