The sonic emitter is a GDI weapon with unique defensive abilities, but consumes large amounts of power. It was developed basing on the harmonic resonance technology utilized in disruptors sometime between the end of the Firestorm Crisis and the beginning of the Third Tiberium War and originally used to dam the spread of and eventually dissolve Tiberium in Yellow Zones worldwide. Originally tools, they soon became one of the most important defense assets in GDI's arsenal.
The emitters are reasonably well armoured and consist of a massive support for a sonic emitter suspended on it. The emitter itself is shaped like a bulb. The turret unleashes a powerful sonic wave which rips through the battlefield and all units in its path, destroying or at least severely damaging them. It was brutally effective against the Scrin invaders during the defense of Stuttgart and the evacuation of GDI executives from Munich, carving a swath through their forces when engineers managed to reactivate the power grids. This was possibly due to the Scrin utilizing Tiberium on an unprecedented scale in their weaponry and technology.
The defence structure suffers from a low rate of fire (a requirement to keep it operational) and lack of precision when hitting mobile targets and without proper support they are easily overwhelmed by groups of scattered units. As such, the Obelisk of Light, while less powerful, is much more precise and effective against moving targets, also unlike the Obelisk of light, the Sonic emitter's projectile travels on the ground thus it has the menacing ability to damage even friendly units in the projectile's path. Also, obviously, the sonic emitter cannot engage airborne units. It's advantage over most defensive structures is that since the projectile travels on the ground in a straight line it will damage anything in it's path until the projectile looses energy, thus tightly grouped enemies will find themselves in a tight spot if they are fired upon by Sonic emitters.
Before 2047, GDI constructed mobile sonic emitters on hover platforms, codenamed Shatterers and ZOCOM Shatterers which were still used by 2052.
