The Allied Spectrum tower is a powerful high-tech base defence, the Red Alert 3 equivalent of the Prism tower from Red Alert 2.
Background
Edit
The Spectrum tower focuses and amplifies light waves to form an extremely destructive burst of high-energy photons, which can cut through any substance easily. The Spectrum Tower, along with the Chronosphere and Mirage tank, was created by FutureTech, a Dutch defense contractor providing the Allies with high tech weapons.
Game building
Edit
The Spectrum Tower is extremely effective against enemy infantry, vehicles, or ships foolish enough to venture within its range. It can kill infantry with one shot, and two or three Spectrum Towers could quickly make short work of even the most armoured tanks. Unlike the Spectrum Cannon found on Mirage Tanks, the Spectrum Tower can fire its beam at long-range. However, they are still vulnerable to siege units such as Athena Cannons, Pacifier FAVs, V4 Rocket Launchers, Wave Force Artillery, Dreadnoughts, Aircraft Carriers, and Shogun Battleships. It is also vulnerable to aircrafts. Additionally, note that the Spectrum Beam only targets one unit at a time and will take a while to recharge after each shot. Therefore large number of enemies may be able to overwhelm it.
However nearby towers can share energy, one tower can send another energy if the latter is inside its range and has an available target, this relayed energy can be used to shorten recharge times and increase the power of the blast. The feature is similar to the relay abilities of the Patriots and Tomahawk launchers seen in Generals.
Spectrum Towers are quite costly and energy intensive. Operators must be careful not to let the base's power supply be compromised, or the Towers will go offline.
