Disambig
For other uses, see Spy Satellite.

The Spy Satellite Uplink is an Allied structure in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge designed to reveal the entire battlefield.

Game building[]

When built, the spy satellite uplink completely removes the shroud (with the exception of areas around enemy gap generators), showing all locations on the battlefield and on the radar display.

The spy satellite uplink also has standard radar array capabilities, meaning that it can provide radar display independently from the Airforce Command Headquarters and, unlike that structure, it is immune to the tampering of spies. However, once the structure is sold, captured, or destroyed, the shroud is completely reset for the owning player, while cutting off power has no effect other than the inability to uncover the shroud over underpowered or destroyed enemy gap generators.

This building's SpySat capabilities have problems when the Darkness crate Powerup from Tiberian Sun is re-enabled or forced on a map: the map will reshroud for the player, even when owning one or multiple buildings. Constructing additional SpySats will have no effect, all of them must be lost by the player first, before a newly acquired one has any effect.[1]

It also permanently breaks some mission-scripts after construction, such as the Kirovs not Changing House after discovery in RA2Sov12 Polar Storm unless the mission is restarted.[2]
