Technology lab

After the firestorm crises ended and the world became divided into "zones" Nod became aware of the need for facilities that were more geared to studying Tiberium. Nod gradually phases out their technology centers of the TWII and replaced them with Technology labs. While these facilities were still used to provide manufacturing support for bases as the technology centers had they were also geared better for newer research and development. To minimize damage from bombing threats, a concern Nod had had from GDI's advance air divisions of the Second Tiberium War, the facility was located mostly below ground.

The technology lab was essential for producing Vertigo bombers, beam cannons (Though this was later transferred down to the Operation Centers), Obelisks of Light, the Temple of Nod and its nuclear weaponry guidance systems, Tiberium chemical plants, stealth tanks, Avatar Warmechs, the Specter Artillery and in conjunction with the secret shrine, the commandos from Nod bases. Though Black Hand did not use Vertigo bombers or Stealth Tanks, construction of the Tech Lab gives them access to Purifiers.

Most general Nod forces used it to arrange the "Redemption", where groups of militants and\or rocket militants within a designated area would be converted into Awakened if killed. Neither the Black Hand, who refused to use "soulless machines", nor Marked of Kane, who already had Awakened cyborgs in abundance, employed this. The Black Hand also used technology labs to project "Decoy Temples", which would both appear to be Temples of Nod to enemies. This would incite enemies to attack it in fear of nuclear attacks from it and deviate them away from the real threat.

In serving it it's role to provide bases with more technologically advanced weapons, the technology lab also provided advancements to more otherwise "low tech" units. EMP coils, Spitfire laser capacitors, and Tiberium core missiles. The Black Hand substituted charged particle beams for laser capacitors, while the Marked of Kane did the same with supercharged particle beams. Dozer Blades were formerly available only from the Tech Lab but have since been moved down to the Operation Centers to make it available to commanders earlier.

It is interesting to see that the Nod Tech Lab is suspiciously similar in design to it's Scrin equivalent, the Technology Assembler.
