The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was government during the 20th Century. It was one of the fifteen republics that consisted of the USSR.

In 1917, the Ukrainian S.S.R. was created following the demise of the Russian Empire. Several groups had hoped to create an independent Ukrainian state, but the Communist factions prevailed. Ukraine became a founding member of the USSR in 1922. After 1945, Ukraine amended its Constitution, which allowed it to act as a separate subject in some cases, but still as a member of the USSR.

During the Great World War II, the Ukrainian S.S.R. sent it's military into Europe to support the Soviet invasion. It's forces were notable for having excellent speed, surpassing the other major powers, relatively speaking.

With the collapse of the USSR, the Ukrainian S.S.R. separated from the Soviet Union, renaming itself Ukraine.
