Vehicle armour
From Command and Conquer Wiki
Vehicle armour has evolved over the years. From the basic steel plating of the Great World War II to the composite hexagonal armour of the Mammoth 27, the research of survivability of a given vehicle was being done constantly. Typically, a vehicle's armour is stronger up-front and weaker on the sides and especially rear. This vulnerability exists even in 2047, and Mammoth 27 is a prime example of this approach.
Some upgrades can strengthen the armour on a specific side of the vehicle, as is the case with the dozer blades which increase the frontal armour on a Scorpion tank.
[edit] Light armour
Found on the Humvee and other Light scout units, as well as most aircraft, light armour is generally thin, and made out of aluminum other light metals. This makes it resistant to most machine gun and small arms fire, but it is rather weak against tank shells or other threats.
[edit] Heavy armour
A thick layer of steel, ceramics, or composites, and found on most tanks or heavy vehicles is heavy armour. This type of armour is almost immune to bullets, and dampens even tank shells and other weapons designed to pierce armour. It is used on many types of Heavy assault units.
[edit] Extremely heavy armour
This is a description that is conflated with very good structure, and is generally indicative that a unit is extremely difficult to destroy, abnormally so. Currently, the only units (for their time period), that might receive this designation are the Core Defender, Motherships, Epic Units, Soviet Super tanks and possibly Volkov.
