A Vulcan Turret was an upgrade for the Component Tower. It was a major part of GDI defenses during the Second Tiberium War
Description
Edit
A Vulcan Turret mounted a pair of 20 mm Vulcan Cannons, which provided several advantages and disadvantages. First, these cannons made it extremely effective against enemy infantry and light vehicles such as Attack Buggys and Attack Cycles, whom it could cut down quickly. However, it should be noted that Rocket Infantry had better range than a Vulcan Tower and could therefore destroy it from outside of its range, but against most infantry, including cyborgs, the Vulcan Tower had the upper hand. However, against Tick Tanks and heavy assault units like the Cyborg Commando, it was extremely ineffective, both because its range was limited - allowing Tick Tanks to open fire upon it from outside of its range - and because its 20mm cannons were ineffective against heavily armored targets. Of course, the Cyborg Commando could simply annihliate the tower with a few attacks.
Usage
Edit
The low cost of the structure meant that GDI could deploy it in very high numbers. Hammerfest base included quite a number of Vulcan Towers, which were used as exterior defenses. Due to the fact that it did not have any minimum range, it was sometimes paired with RPG Towers that were effective against enemy armor. Furthermore, as a rather low tech unit, it was present at all GDI bases from Phoenix Base to Hammerfest. They were replaced with Watchtowers later on due to short range and the weaknesses already mentioned.
